As the first Google TV series to incorporate Google’s cutting-edge Gemini artificial intelligence, TCL Electronics has introduced the QM9K series, signaling a dramatic departure from the conventional Google Assistant interface in favor of more complex voice interaction features. Innovative presence-sensing technology, which automatically turns on ambient display features when users enter a room, makes its premiere alongside the new flagship television lineup.

With previously unheard-of technical specs including peak brightness levels of 6,500 nits and up to 6,000 precise local dimming zones, the QM9K series is TCL’s most expensive television offering. “This premium series combines the picture accuracy of its Halo Control System with a wider color viewing angle, unique ZeroBorder, and new higher levels of precise dimming zones and peak brightness,” said Scott Ramirez, Vice President of Product Marketing and Development for Home Theater at TCL.
The way people interact with their televisions is drastically altered with the incorporation of Google’s Gemini AI. Gemini allows for genuine conversation with follow-up questions and sophisticated requests, as contrast to the old Google Assistant, which handled simple commands. Conversational queries like “What’s a romantic movie I can watch in under two hours?” and requests for in-depth explanations of everything from science to travel advice are now possible for users.
Far-field microphones built into the TVs enable hands-free operation from across the room, doing away with the need to activate the remote control. Furthermore, when someone approaches, the television is automatically woken by a mmWave presence sensor, which shows customized widgets such as calendar appointments, news briefs, and weather updates.
The Premium Market Is Competed With By Advanced Display Technology
TCL’s innovative Halo Control System with “Micro OD” technology, which minimizes image blooming by reducing the optical distance between the diffuser plate and backlight, is a feature of the QM9K series. The televisions use a “ZeroBorder” edge-to-edge design for thin bezels and use CrystGlow WHVA panels, which are made for ultrawide color viewing angles.
The QM9K series, which comes in four sizes from 65 to 98 inches, has gaming features like variable refresh rate up to 288 Hz and supports 144 Hz refresh rates. The TVs also support Dolby Atmos FlexConnect wireless speaker technology and include audio systems created in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen.
Market Launch And Wider Industry Consequences
Although the QM9K series’ price has not yet been revealed, TCL said it will be available at Best Buy and a few other regional retailers later this month. According to the company, a future over-the-air upgrade will also add Gemini capabilities to its current QM8K series.
Google has confirmed that Nest devices will start receiving Gemini integration on October 1, 2025, as part of their larger effort to spread out Gemini throughout its whole smart home ecosystem. Google’s commitment to switching its whole line of smart devices from Google Assistant to the more sophisticated Gemini platform by 2026 is indicated by this well-coordinated rollout.
