Rival Anthropic is attempting to make Claude more speech-friendly with a new upgrade, just weeks after OpenAI released a new family of conversational models and improved ChatGPT’s voice mode. Users can select between the Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku models, the business announced on Thursday.
Although Claude’s speech mode, which was introduced last year and was based on the Haiku concept, offered prompt responses, it wasn’t ideal for complicated tasks. According to the company, voice mode now uses its fastest version by default and selects the model that users most recently used in the text chat.
According to Anthropic, the new speech mode can assist users with longer talks, such as brainstorming product market research, giving feedback on their communication style, and conducting a pitch to a client.
Additionally, Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Canva, and Notion are all accessible through Claude’s voice mode. This implies that users can ask it to write a paper in Notion, draft an email, or modify a meeting time.
This is very different from OpenAI’s speech mode, which improved its conversational manner but is still unable to use various tools to complete tasks.
Claude’s speech mode in beta was made multilingual earlier this year by Anthropic. It stated that although users can now converse in multiple languages, they must manually select the language. English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian), and Spanish (Latin America/Spain) are currently supported by Anthropic.
All users on all platforms can access the new speech mode in beta. Free users, however, will only be able to use the Haiku model with one linked app.
