In an effort to embrace third-party AI providers and depart from its historically closed ecosystem, Apple is getting ready to incorporate Anthropic’s Claude AI helper straight into Xcode 26. Evidence found in the most recent beta version demonstrates mechanisms for direct Anthropic account login that are comparable to the current ChatGPT integration, as well as explicit support for Claude Sonnet 4.0 and Claude Opus 4.

The finding was made after 9to5Mac’s investigation of Xcode 26 beta 7 revealed numerous allusions to the new “Intelligence” feature’s integrated support for Anthropic accounts. The underlying infrastructure for Claude’s native support seems to be prepared for deployment, even if ChatGPT is still the only model with first-party integration that is currently shipping.

Quick Support For Revival With A Wider Scope

Apple’s long-delayed Swift Assist project, which was first revealed at WWDC 2024 but was never made public, has now come to fruition with this development. Apple engineers reportedly discovered that the original version was prone to performance problems and hallucinations. With support for Apple’s own models, native ChatGPT integration with daily usage limitations, and the option to plug in third-party providers, including local models running on developers’ computers, the updated system that will be included in Xcode 26 adopts a whole different strategy.

Although the Claude integration wasn’t formally disclosed at WWDC 2025, Craig Federighi declared that Apple had “expanded” its aim for Swift Assist to accommodate various major language models. The feature now includes a chat interface in the left sidebar of Xcode where developers can ask for help with documentation, bug fixes, and code changes.

Opening The Ecosystem At Apple

Ars Technica claims that the action is Apple’s first tangible example of extending support for an outside AI supplier outside of OpenAI. Although Apple has not acknowledged plans to debut these capabilities concurrently, server-side configuration data indicate that Claude may ultimately join ChatGPT as an alternative to Siri and the system’s Writing Tools.

According to a May Bloomberg story, Apple has been testing a Claude-powered version of Xcode internally, and talks between Anthropic and Apple have been going on for a while. In contrast to its usually exclusive approach to technology development, the alliance shows Apple’s openness to work with outside AI vendors to speed up its development tools.

Compared to the existing API-based connection technique, native Claude integration promises a more efficient experience for developers. Because of its coding talents, Claude has become more and more popular among programmers; many people view it as a top AI coding assistance. While preserving the smooth experience that Apple consumers want from native features, the integration will allow developers to choose from a variety of AI models, each tailored for particular programming tasks.
