Noland Arbaugh, the first person to receive Elon Musk’s Neuralink brain implant, is reportedly using the gadget to study French and Japanese, devoting almost three hours a day to his language studies.
Language Learning With Noland Arbaugh
Noland Arbaugh, who lovingly calls his brain implant “Eve,” has accepted the tool’s capacity for enlightenment and personal development. Arbaugh is employing the Neuralink technology not only for language acquisition but also for lengthy reading, creative writing, and a complete relearning of mathematics. He spends about an hour reading every day, covering everything from classic Tolkien to fantasy writers like Brandon Sanderson. He also makes time for Bible studies and devotions.
Neuralink Implant Difficulties
Although the Neuralink implant worked well at first, weeks after the surgery, several of its ultra-fine threads pulled out of Arbaugh’s brain, causing dysfunction. A loss of functionality was the outcome of this setback, with almost 85% of the thread-based electrodes becoming displaced. But by modifying the algorithm, Neuralink experts were able to step in and bring back a lot of the device’s functionality. The implantation procedure has been improved as a result of this experience, and the company claims to have resolved the problem by deeply embedding the threads for its second human patient.
Working Together With Neuralink
Arbaugh works closely with Neuralink experts to undertake research targeted at developing the technology, putting in about four hours a day, five days a week. This collaboration not only advances him personally but also opens the door for developments that may help patients in the future. Experiments aimed at extending the functionality of the gadget include experimenting with various body parts and movements for the left, right, and middle click functionalities. This cooperative approach emphasizes the critical role that patient feedback plays in improving brain-computer interface technology and illustrates the iterative nature of neural implant development.
Goals For The Future With Eve
Arbaugh has stated that he has high expectations for his future with the Neuralink implant. With his unique insights into the discipline, he may decide to switch to neuroscience when he returns to university to complete his degree. Furthermore, though these applications are pending FDA approval, Arbaugh anticipates utilizing only his thoughts to operate tangible devices like vehicles, drones, and robots. He’s also quite excited about gaming, where he thinks the implant will offer him a big advantage and could even require special leagues for players with neural interfaces.
