Those that don’t adjust run the risk of falling behind as AI quickly changes industry. Learn how incorporating AI into your process is essential to remaining competitive, not just a benefit.

It required:

  • Automobiles will replace horse-drawn carriages in 20 years.
  • The Wright brothers’ first flight and their lunar landing are 66 years apart.
  • It will take ninety years to go from wooden ships to aircraft carriers powered by nuclear.
  • The transition from landlines and rotary phones to global 5G networks will take 50 years.

These are but a handful of instances of how quickly technology can advance in a person’s lifetime. Imagine being a part of that advancement and seeing directly how these ground-breaking innovations went from science fiction to everyday life.

In the present day, artificial intelligence has already upended numerous professions and sectors, and its pace is only expected to increase. Just take a look at what the top large language models (LLMs) have accomplished in the past 12 months. You may be underestimating how quickly things are happening if you’re not paying attention.

I was shocked to learn that a family member who works in real estate hadn’t even used ChatGPT or anything comparable during our recent conversation. They had no idea how much crazy value they were losing up on. LLMs may support almost any job, including real estate, by automating repetitive processes and assisting in the streamlining of everything from client communications to property research. You’re already lagging behind if you’re not using programs like ChatGPT.

Let’s move the conversation to software development, which is the topic that interests me the most.

For the past few years, I’ve been riding this AI wave, mostly concentrating on helping customers with their difficulties. I have become more mission critical in my use of LLMs over the past two years (ChatGPT 3.5). I began by doing basic things like editing emails, smoothing down my responses, and creating SQL queries (although awkward ones). Today, almost 90% of my code and around 40% of the code produced by our team is written by AI.

An internal version of ChatGPT 4o is among our most potent implementations. It works similarly to the standard model right out of the box, but we’ve trained it on data unique to our business to manage internal HR, process, and documentation inquiries. Do you need help finding a complicated workplace policy or requesting paid time off? Ask our AI. In addition to saving time, this enables staff members to obtain pertinent responses without the back-and-forth that reduces output.

Let’s now discuss scale and speed, two aspects of managing a software team that I find extremely important. To assist developers with coding across various tech stacks, we employ tools such as Cursor. Writing better, more secure code is the goal of Cursor, not just writing more of it. We’re shipping faster, with more features, and with better quality. greater than before. Cursor even includes a functionality that lets you quickly correct breaking changes by comparing your branch to the main branch. In essence, it is a pull request cheat code. A friend was startled when I showed him this and finally remarked, “That’s cheating.”

To be honest, he’s not incorrect. Now is the moment to be a bit concerned if you’re a developer who is only familiar with one particular stack or language since AI is changing the game. AI is opening up new avenues for exploration and exploration. Before last month, I had never written code for an AWS Lambda function and, to be honest, had always avoided it. However, I was able to develop and deploy a Lambda function in less than an hour by utilizing Cursor. That is empowering in addition to saving time.

We’ve used empowerment to accomplish tasks that would typically require 30 to 40 developers. Four distinct programming languages are represented in the more than 3 million lines of code that our team maintains. All of that is being managed by ten developers. We didn’t panic—we didn’t even backfill those positions—despite the team going through some attrition. Why? Because we can still accomplish more with less thanks to AI tools like Cursor.

The future has already arrived, and I can’t wait to see what lies ahead. AI is a wave of innovation that is transforming entire industries, not just a fad. And you risk falling behind if you don’t ride that wave.

The message is the same whether you work in software, real estate, or another industry: take use of AI or take a chance as others ride that wave into the future.
