Moflin, a cutting-edge AI-powered robotic pet intended for emotional support and cuddling, is now available for pre-order from Casio. This fuzzy friend, which looks like a cross between a hamster and the Tribbles from Star Trek, offers a novel take on digital companionship by attempting to create a virtual link with its owner through distinctive sounds and movements.

The Interaction And Design Of Moflin

Unlike mobile robotic pets like Sony’s Aibo, Moflin is made especially for holding and snuggling. The AI-powered companion’s tactile appeal is enhanced by its silky, detachable fur, which comes in gray and blonde. Moflin recharges in a little bed-like station, simulating sleep to preserve its lifelike features, and has a battery life of roughly five hours3. Because of its emotional intelligence, the robot may react to voice and physical contact, developing a special and dynamic bond with its owner.

A Feature Of Personality Development

Moflin acquires its own distinct personality via everyday interactions, changing emotionally to display characteristics like contentment, tension, or a relaxed manner. A 2-Dimensional Emotion Express Map enables this AI-driven evolution, enabling Moflin’s emotions to fluctuate in response to its environment and interactions with its owner. Users may notice their Moflin become emotionally connected as the attachment strengthens, simulating the experience of taking care of a live pet.

Cost And Availability

Moflin, which costs ¥59,400 (about $398 USD), will start arriving on November 7, 2024. There are currently no plans for an international release, and preorders are only available in Japan. For ¥6,600 a year, Casio offers Club Moflin, an optional subscription service that entitles users to discounts on cleanings, repairs, and a yearly fur replacement.

Award Recognition At CES 2021

Moflin won the coveted “Best of Innovation” award at CES 2021, the biggest annual technology conference in the world, which was held in Las Vegas. The company got widespread praise for its creative idea and technology. This honor draws attention to Moflin’s distinctive method of robotic companionship and its possible influence on technology for emotional support. The recognition places Moflin at the forefront of this developing industry and highlights the rising interest in AI-powered companions made for comfort and mental wellness.
